Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Why Fort Worth Homeowners Choose HeatShield Chimney Cleaning

Kindling Chimney Fort Worth provides independent Heatshield service in Fort Worth, including chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair across the city from Fairmount bungalows to newer builds in the Alliance corridor. We work on HeatShield Cerfractory flue sealant, the Joint Repair System, CeCure sleeve relining, and Hybrid Repair Systems, and we’re not a manufacturer-authorized shop. That matters because we tell you what’s actually failing inside the flue, based on what our camera shows, not what a brand rep wants sold. If your HeatShield coating is flaking above the damper or you’ve spotted hairline cracks at the tile joints, call (682) 382-9934 and we’ll schedule a camera-backed inspection. Most standard HeatShield chimney cleanings in Fort Worth run between $189 and $325 depending on flue condition and accessibility.

Why Trust Kindling Chimney Fort Worth for Your HeatShield Chimney Cleaning?

Our crews have restored and cleaned hundreds of HeatShield systems across Fort Worth, from original 1990s installs to recent retrofits, and we know exactly how their ceramic and refractory materials behave under North Texas heat cycles. Danny Cortes, our owner, spent the better part of two decades cleaning and inspecting chimneys here, and he’s the first to say a HeatShield coating doesn’t fail the same way a clay tile liner does. The failure modes are specific: hairline cracks at mortar joints, spalling around the smoke shelf, separation between a CeCure sleeve and the original liner. A technician who only knows generic chimney sweeping will miss those. Ours won’t.

We’re independent, and we’re upfront about that. We carry HeatShield’s proprietary Cerfractory and CeCure materials because we’ve seen what happens when a contractor substitutes generic refractory cement to save a few dollars. The expansion rate doesn’t match, the coating cracks within a season or two, and the homeowner pays twice. We’d rather do the job once. Since we’re part of the Cedarwell family of companies, established in 2003, we have access to professional-grade materials and a standardized care process, but this Fort Worth location is independently owned and operated by Danny and his crew. Every technician who walks through your door is background-checked, uniformed, and follows the C.A.R.E. values on every visit: shoe covers and drop cloths down on arrival, nothing moved without asking, and a photo of the clean-up taken before we leave.

Common HeatShield Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Fort Worth

  • Hairline cracks at flue tile mortar joints on older Cerfractory applications. This is the most common HeatShield issue we find in Fort Worth’s 1920s-1940s brick bungalows. The original clay tile liner expands and contracts through our hot summers and occasional hard freezes, and the Cerfractory coating at the joints eventually develops micro-cracks. Creosote seeps into those cracks, and over time the coating begins to separate. A standard sweep with a wire brush won’t address this. It requires a camera inspection to confirm the extent, then a targeted Joint Repair System application.
  • Spalling and flaking of the HeatShield coating around the smoke shelf. High-temperature cycling takes a toll right above the firebox. We see this often in Ryan Place and Arlington Heights homes where fireplaces get heavy use from November through February. The coating near the smoke shelf degrades, flakes off, and leaves the underlying masonry exposed to direct flame. Left alone, the damage spreads downward toward the firebox. The fix is careful removal of the loose material and a fresh Cerfractory resurfacing, not a brush-over that hides the problem for another season.
  • Separation between the CeCure sleeve and the original flue liner. On newer retrofits, the stainless steel CeCure sleeve is designed to slide inside a deteriorated clay liner. But when the original liner shifts due to Fort Worth’s expansive clay soils, the gap between sleeve and liner can open up at the top or bottom. That gap catches creosote and becomes a fire risk. We find this pattern in 1960s-1980s ranch homes throughout the city where foundation movement is common. A camera scan tells us exactly where the separation sits.
  • Water intrusion around the top plate of a Hybrid Repair System. Fort Worth’s severe thunderstorms with hail are hard on chimney crowns. When the crown coating degrades, water works its way down around the top plate of a Hybrid Repair System and accelerates rust on the plate and sleeve connection. Homeowners notice staining on the ceiling near the fireplace or a musty smell after heavy rain. We inspect the crown and top plate as part of every HeatShield service call.
  • Creosote buildup inside CeCure sleeves on factory-built fireplaces. In the sprawling 1990s-2000s suburban homes that ring Fort Worth, pre-fab fireplaces with HeatShield-lined chases often go years between inspections. Creosote doesn’t care whether the liner is ceramic-coated or stainless. It builds up the same way, especially when families burn unseasoned wood or run the fireplace on low for long stretches. The difference is that a CeCure sleeve’s smooth interior can be cleaned thoroughly with the right brushes, and we do that without scratching the surface.

HeatShield Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We source HeatShield’s proprietary Cerfractory and CeCure materials directly, never substituting generic refractory cement that can’t match the expansion rate of the original coating. For minor joint cracks, we repair. A tube or two of the Joint Repair System compound, applied correctly, can restore the seal at the tile joints and buy years of safe burning. For widespread liner deterioration or failed prior coatings, we’ll tell you straight if a full sleeve reline is the only honest fix. We don’t pitch relines on chimneys that only need a resurfacing, and we don’t patch chimneys that genuinely need a sleeve. The camera footage we show you is the same footage we use to make the call. Call (682) 382-9934 if you’ve been told you need a new liner and want a second opinion you can actually see.

Last fall our tech opened a 1996 wood-burning fireplace in Arlington Heights and found the homeowner’s previous Chimney Sweep services had just brushed over a badly cracked HeatShield coating above the damper. We removed the loose material, applied a fresh Cerfractory resurfacing, and replaced a warped throat damper, then ran a Level 2 camera scan to confirm the coating was continuous before the first burn. That’s the standard we hold for every HeatShield job in Fort Worth.

Our HeatShield Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Camera inspection first. We run a Level 2 camera scan of the entire flue before we touch anything. For HeatShield systems, we’re looking specifically for coating separation, spalling at the smoke shelf, joint cracks, and sleeve alignment. You see the footage. We don’t ask you to trust a verbal description.
  2. 2
Written diagnosis and price. After the scan, we walk you through exactly what we found, in plain language, and hand you a written price before any work starts. No phone calls to a manager, no on-the-spot upsell. If the coating is sound and all you need is a sweep, that’s what we recommend.
  3. 3
Repair or reline with HeatShield materials. When work is needed, we use HeatShield’s Cerfractory, Joint Repair System, or CeCure sleeve materials, depending on the diagnosis. We don’t substitute generics. The application is done to the manufacturer’s spec, not a shortcut version.
  4. 4
Post-work camera verification. After the repair or reline, we run the camera again to confirm the coating is continuous and the joints are sealed. You get the before and after footage. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work: if it’s not right, we make it right.

HeatShield Products We Service & Install in Fort Worth

We service and install the full HeatShield product line: the Cerfractory Flue Sealant for resurfacing deteriorated clay tile liners, the Joint Repair System for targeted crack sealing at mortar joints, the CeCure Sleeve Relining System for full relines when the original liner is beyond repair, and the Hybrid Repair System for chimneys that need both a stainless sleeve and a Cerfractory coating. We keep common HeatShield materials on hand for faster turnaround on Fort Worth jobs, and we can order specialty components quickly when the scope calls for it. If you’re not sure which system your chimney has, the camera inspection will tell us, and we’ll show you.

We Also Service These Brands

While HeatShield is a brand we know deeply, we also work with DuraFlex stainless liners and Gelco chimney products. Some Fort Worth chimneys are better served by a different system depending on flue shape, fuel type, and the condition of the surrounding masonry. We’ll recommend what actually fits your fireplace, not just the brand we’re standing next to that week.
