Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Gelco Flue Liner Replacement: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
Gelco flue liner replacement in Fort Worth typically runs between $2,800 and $4,900 installed, depending on the liner length, chimney height, and whether the crown or chase top needs attention at the same time. We stock Gelco-compatible liners on the truck and can usually complete the replacement in one visit. Most Fort Worth homeowners discover the problem during an annual inspection, or when they notice flaky rust-colored material collecting at the base of the firebox, or a faint acrid smell in the room even when the damper is closed.

Here’s what we mean by that smell and those flakes, and exactly how we approach the fix so you’re never guessing about what’s actually wrong.
Which Gelco Models This Applies To
Gelco has manufactured masonry chimney liners and relining systems for decades, and the most common units we replace parts on in Fort Worth are the Gelco cast-in-place relining systems and the Gelco prefabricated stainless steel replacement liners installed in masonry chimneys. The cast-in-place systems are notoriously hard to identify from the ground because the original label is often hidden behind the damper or buried under years of soot. Owners often find a Gelco product tag on the chase top, on the termination cap, or referenced in the paperwork from the home’s original build or a previous reline.
If you cannot find a label, we measure. The liner’s inner diameter, wall thickness, and whether the liner has a smooth or corrugated profile tell us which Gelco series you’re dealing with, and whether a direct replacement part or a professional-grade equivalent from one of our other stocked brands (DuraFlex or HeatShield) will actually fit your chimney. One compatibility gotcha we see weekly in Fort Worth: older Gelco cast-in-place liners often have a non-standard crown termination that a generic replacement cap will not seat on correctly. We carry the adapters and a handful of cap configurations on the truck specifically for this. For the stainless Gelco liners, a 6-inch diameter liner in a 7 inch by 11 inch clay tile flue is the most common match we measure in Tarrant County homes, but we never order a single component until we’ve pulled exact inside dimensions.
Kindling Chimney Fort Worth is an independent chimney service provider. We install and service Gelco products, but we are not affiliated with the Gelco manufacturing company.

Signs Your Gelco Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
- Flaking material at the bottom of the firebox. Cast-in-place liner material and older stainless liners both shed visible particles as they degrade. You’ll see a fine rust-brown or sandy-looking dust that returns within days after the firebox is vacuumed. This is the liner surface failing, not the firebox itself.
- An acrid or chemical odor that lingers. A healthy liner carries combustion gases up and out. When the liner cracks or separates, those gases cool and stall in the chimney cavity. The smell is sharp, not the normal wood-smoke scent you’re used to. It may become more noticeable in humid Fort Worth weather, when the chimney cavity stays damp.
- Staining or moisture marks on interior walls near the chimney. A failing liner allows condensate and moisture to pass through to surrounding masonry and, eventually, drywall. This is a slow process, and by the time the stain is visible, the liner has usually been compromised for a season or more.
- Reduced draft or smoke spilling into the room on startup. A cracked or collapsed liner section disrupts the smooth flow of exhaust. The fireplace feels moody: smoke rolls back into the room when you first light it, then eventually draws. That intermittent behavior is a classic liner problem, not a wood problem.
- Visible rust or holes on the liner exterior during an inspection. Stainless liners in Fort Worth deal with repeated hot-cold cycling and periodic freeze-thaw dampness. Small pinholes can form at weld seams. We catch these during our Level 2 camera inspection, and show you the photos on the spot.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
A full Gelco-compatible flue liner replacement in Fort Worth usually lands between $2,800 and $4,900 installed. The spread is driven primarily by chimney height: a single-story ranch with a 15-foot flue will come in at the low end, while a two-story house with a 30-foot-plus chimney and a difficult roof pitch will run toward the top. The condition of the existing crown also matters, and we’ll tell you plainly if a crown repair should happen at the same time so you’re not paying for two mobilizations.
Your written quote includes the liner, the termination cap, the connection to the appliance or fireplace, any necessary adapters, full clean-up, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work isn’t right, Kindling makes it right. No surprise line items at the end of the job, and no pressure to add work we didn’t show you on camera.

There are a couple of things an owner can safely check from the fireplace opening: look for flaking debris accumulating in the firebox, use a flashlight to spot any obvious separation or sagging in the visible liner section, and note whether the odor returns after the damper has been left open for a few hours. That information is genuinely helpful to have when you call.
What we don’t recommend is pulling the existing liner or lowering a replacement without experience. You’re working at height, the liner runs through a vertical passage where a stuck section can become a multi-thousand-dollar extraction problem, and without a camera inspection you cannot confirm what the liner is actually connecting to at the top. Additionally, a crack or separation in a flue liner is a legitimate carbon monoxide pathway into the home, and this is not the kind of repair where a “close enough” fit is acceptable. This is one of those jobs where our C.A.R.E. values apply just as much to the roof work as the living-room work: shoe covers and drop cloths go down inside, clean-up photos are taken before we leave, and nothing is moved without asking. Call (682) 382-9934 and we’ll walk through the symptoms before anyone schedules a visit.
FAQs
A properly installed Gelco stainless steel liner in a Fort Worth chimney typically lasts 15 to 25 years, though our Texas heat-humidity cycling and occasional hard freezes tend to shorten that toward the lower end compared to drier climates. Cast-in-place Gelco systems can last a similar span, but we’ve pulled failed cast-in-place material from Fort Worth homes in under 12 years when the original installation was imperfect. The single biggest factor is whether the liner was sized to match the appliance, and whether the crown and cap are keeping water out. We’ll give you an honest remaining-lifespan read from the camera footage during an inspection. Call (682) 382-9934 if you want to know where your liner stands today.
In some cases, yes. Small pinholes in an otherwise structurally sound stainless liner can sometimes be addressed with a targeted repair, but a liner with active rust-through, separation at the seams, or significant distortion needs full replacement. We will not recommend a full liner replacement unless we can show you the damage on camera. That’s non-negotiable for us, and it’s the same standard Danny Cortes holds on every job.
For a standard single-story Fort Worth home, the replacement takes most of one day, with a crew of two. Taller chimneys, difficult roof access, or crown work alongside the liner can stretch the job into a second morning. We’ll give you a firm time window on the written quote before any work begins.
We keep the most common Gelco-compatible liner diameters, adapters, and termination caps on our trucks, along with DuraFlex and HeatShield equivalents. For unusual sizes, we source directly through our supplier network and typically have parts in hand within a few business days rather than weeks. One call to (682) 382-9934 will confirm whether we can schedule your replacement this week or need to order first.
Kindling Chimney Fort Worth: The Written Care Promise on Every Job
We are the chimney company that puts a written care promise on every visit: shoe covers and drop cloths down before the fireplace is even opened, a written price before any work starts, a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed, and we use pet-safe products where there is a choice. That matters in homes where kids crawl on the hearth and a dog naps in front of the firebox. Our techs follow the C.A.R.E. values by name: Care, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence, in that order, on every single job.
Danny Cortes, our owner, grew up in Los Angeles and learned his first trade skills at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before finding his way to Texas. He has spent the better part of two decades cleaning and inspecting chimneys across Fort Worth, from older bungalows in the Fairmount Historic District to newer builds on the city’s edge. Danny knows how each style of fireplace collects creosote differently depending on how a family uses it. He still keeps a small woodworking bench in his garage, which he says is where he learned to truly respect what fire can do to wood.
A clean flue is just a family being careful, let’s make sure yours is.
If you suspect your Gelco flue liner is failing, or you simply want an honest look at what’s happening inside your chimney, call (682) 382-9934. A live person answers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We’ll listen, ask the right questions, and schedule an inspection without any on-the-spot pressure.
